In Aizawl, Mizoram, Governor Gen VK Singh (Retd) gave a big thumbs-up to Prime Minister Narendra Modi for the upcoming Bairabi-Sairang railway line project. The PM is all set to inaugurate it during his visit to the state, and the governor couldn’t stop praising the effort.
Speaking to , Gen Singh highlighted how PM Modi’s vision is to bring top-notch infrastructure to every nook and corner of India. “Eleven years ago, the Prime Minister said real growth happens when infrastructure reaches remote areas, including border states,” he shared. “One key goal? Connecting every state capital by train.”
The Bairabi-Sairang railway line is a game-changer for Mizoram. It will link directly to the capital, Aizawl, boosting connectivity in the Northeast. “The region wasn’t well-connected before, but after this railway reaches Aizawl, it’ll truly be linked up,” the governor said. “Trains are the best way to move people and goods.”
The new Sairang Railway Station sits just 12 km from Aizawl, making it super convenient. Gen Singh is optimistic about the future too. “I’m confident the railways will extend it another 223 km to the Myanmar border, tying in with the Kaladan project for even better trade and travel.”
This 51.38-km Bairabi-Sairang railway project tackles some of India’s toughest terrain in the Northeast. Engineers built 48 tunnels totaling over 12 km, plus 142 bridges—big and small. The star of the show? Bridge 196, soaring 104 meters high, taller than Delhi’s famous Qutub Minar. It’s the highest bridge in this stretch and the second-tallest pier bridge in all of Indian Railways.
To keep things smooth, the project features five road overbridges and six road underpasses. Overall, this Mizoram railway line promises shorter travel times, better access, and fresh opportunities for locals, transforming life in the state.
