In the city of Ufa, Russia, a 21‑year‑old student from Alwar named Ajit Chaudhary has gone missing. Ajit was pursuing an MBBS degree at Buxar State University, a branch of the local university.

Ajit left India in 2023 after his family sold three bighas of their 20‑bigha farmland to pay for his tuition and living costs. The family kept in touch with school officials and the local police while he lived abroad.

The day he disappeared
On the night of October 19, Ajit was seen leaving his hostel around 11 pm to get milk from the warden. He never returned. His roommate told police that the student had gone to the warden’s office but vanished afterward. Language barriers meant most communication was handled by the roommate.

Search efforts
The next morning, October 20, Russian police recovered Ajit’s jacket and mobile phone from a riverbank in Ufa. Four hours later, his shoes were found nearby, suggesting he may have fallen into the river. However, the police have not released any evidence that the student actually jumped or was killed. The warden has been difficult to talk to, and the college administration has not responded to any enquiries from the family.

Family reaction
Ajit’s uncle, Bhoom Singh, said the family heard the first call from the police on Saturday. “We were confused at first, but after the roommate spoke to the warden, the situation became clearer,” he told reporters. He added that the warden is not giving a consistent explanation. Ajit’s father, Roop Singh, and other relatives are still in shock.

Ajit last video‑called his mother and sister, Santara Devi and Geeta, around 10 pm on October 19, wishing them a happy Diwali. They had plans for him to return home in November, but he never left.

Seeking help
The family has written to Union Minister Bhupendra Yadav for support, saying: “Our son has been missing in Russia since October 19. We suspect something is wrong. Please help us find him soon.” The letter highlights the desperation of a family that sold land to fund Ajit’s dream of becoming a doctor.

What is next
Russian police are still on the search. No definitive leads have surfaced. Ajit’s disappearance has left his family heart‑broken and is a reminder of the dangers some Indian students face when studying abroad. The world watches, hoping for a safe resolution.
