Mumbai’s big push for better schools: Maharashtra teams up with Cambridge University Press
In a major boost for education, the Maharashtra School Education Department has joined hands with Cambridge University Press and Assessment India. They signed a key Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on Thursday to ramp up teacher training and lift the overall quality of school education in the state.
Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis was there for the signing and couldn’t hide his excitement. “Maharashtra has millions of students and teachers, and Cambridge brings world-class expertise,” he said. He called this partnership a game-changer, a fresh milestone toward delivering top-notch, international-standard school education to kids across the state.
Fadnavis pointed out that the state is already on track, thanks to Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision through the National Education Policy (NEP). This MoU will blend Cambridge’s proven methods with Maharashtra’s education system, making the journey even more impactful. “Cambridge is a global leader in education,” he added. “Our students will gain hugely from their best practices, building skills for the future.”
The CM promised close oversight. “This is just the start of a long road,” he said. “We’ll partner with Cambridge every step, and I’ll personally keep an eye on how it rolls out.”
State School Education Minister Dr. Pankaj Bhoyar hailed it as a historic moment for Maharashtra’s school education. “We’re always breaking new ground in administration, infrastructure, and fresh ideas,” he noted. “This MoU pushes us toward world-class standards, shaping tomorrow’s leaders with innovation and confidence.”
Bhoyar highlighted what the partnership covers: climate education, smarter curriculums, better libraries and resources, teacher skill-building programs, and open schooling options. It’s not just about higher marks—it’s about giving students real confidence, practical skills, and global readiness. “Under PM Modi’s Viksit Bharat dream, Maharashtra will lead India’s education revolution,” he declared.
A government statement stressed that the MoU zeroes in on ongoing teacher development, a core part of the NEP. This will sharpen teaching quality and boost student results. Schools in rural and urban areas alike will tap into international methods, covering hot topics like climate education and digital skills. In the end, it promises a more inclusive, high-quality education system in Maharashtra, fully aligned with global benchmarks and the NEP’s goals.
