Delhi police on Sunday arrested a 36‑year‑old murder convict who had escaped parole. Deepak Kumar, also known as Sanjay, hails from Village Soop in Baghpat, Uttar Pradesh, and the arrest took place at Anand Vihar bus terminal in Delhi’s north‑end.
The Delhi Crime Branch recovered a .32‑bore armed pistol and six live rounds from Kumar’s hands during the operation. Police officials say they caught him after a months‑long surveillance and trap setup at the terminal.
Characters in the case include Inspector Satendra Khari of the Crime Branch, Sub‑Inspectors Amit Kumar and Sanjay Kumar, and several constables. The arrest was made under the supervision of ACP Ramesh Lamba on September 30.
Kumar is a proclaimed offender in multiple Delhi courts. He originally received a 20‑year sentence for a murder in Sukhpura Chowk, Rohtak, Haryana. After his parole in 2023, he fled to Shivraj Park, Nangloi, Delhi, where he settled and even tied the knot.
Investigators traced Kumar’s criminal past to at least nine cases across Delhi, Haryana, and Uttar Pradesh. His crimes include four murders, two robberies, two arms‑act violations, and vehicle theft at Nihal Vihar police station.
Delhi police have raided locations in Haryana and Uttar Pradesh to seize the weapons and ammunition linked to Kumar’s operations. The case is now under full investigation, and authorities are on high alert as they pursue any remaining fugitives connected to this network.
