Kohima, Oct 15 – The ruling People’s Democratic Alliance (PDA), a coalition led by the Nationalist Democratic Progressive Party (NDPP), praised the Union government headed by Prime Minister Narendra Modi for its ongoing support of Nagaland’s development.

Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio convened a PDA meeting in Kohima that day. The leaders adopted a unanimous resolution calling on the central government and all parties in the Indo‑Naga peace process to push forward the dialogue toward a fair and inclusive settlement. The resolution also welcomed the Naga People’s Front (NPF) for officially joining the PDA and thanked the BJP leadership for endorsing NPF’s inclusion.

Key figures at the meeting included Nagaland Deputy Chief Minister Yanthungo Patton, Nagaland BJP president Benjamin Yepthomi, NDPP secretary‑general Abu Metha, NDPP senior vice‑president Rusemtong Longkumer, NPF MLA‑secretary‑general Achumbemo Kikon, and NPF president Apong Pongener.

Behind the scenes, the Political Affairs Committee (PAC) of Nagaland has been urging the Centre to raise the Naga peace talks to a high political level by appointing a senior interlocutor with full government backing. The PAC, headed by Chief Minister Rio, called for the talks to resume at the political level to speed up negotiations. Members of the committee met with Hindu, civil‑society, and student groups as part of a consultative meeting on September 12 in Kohima.

The PAC praised the government and Naga groups for maintaining the ceasefire agreements and keeping the dialogue alive amid longstanding challenges. Advisor A.K. Mishra of the Ministry of Home Affairs has also held talks with Naga groups, including the Isak‑Muivah faction of the National Socialist Council of Nagalim (NSCN‑IM).

Former Nagaland Governor R.N. Ravi served as an Interlocutor in Naga peace talks before moving to Tamil Nadu in 2021. The Union government has been negotiating with NSCN‑IM and other Naga factions since the 1997 ceasefire, adding the 2015 Framework Agreement and the 2017 agreement with the Working Committee of Naga National Political Groups to the mix. NSCN‑IM still pushes for a separate flag and constitution for Nagas and for their territories across Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Manipur, Nagaland, and even Myanmar – demands the government has repeatedly rejected.

As Nagaland moves toward a comprehensive resolution, the PDA and PAC are pushing for stronger central engagement and a politically driven peace process that reflects the hopes of all Naga communities.
