NCW chief Vijaya Rahatkar in Diu for interaction with fisherwomen

NCW Chairperson Vijaya Rahatkar kicked off a busy four-day visit to Diu today, focusing on women’s empowerment and community outreach. She plans to chat with fisherwomen about nutrition and connect with the local fishing community, an official shared.

In a post on X, Rahatkar shared her excitement: “I’ll engage in discussions with the sisters of the fishing community, address the ‘Nari Tu Narayani’ women’s conference, and join a dialogue for Nutrition Month.” These events are set at Vanakbara Jetty and Fishermen Shed in Ghoghla.

During her stay, the National Commission for Women (NCW) is rolling out a three-day workshop called “Catalysts for Change: Gender Inclusive Governance Program” from September 12 to 14. It targets IAS and IPS officers from 20 states, helping them build skills for women’s empowerment in governance.

This marks the third edition of the program, after successful runs in Thiruvananthapuram and Goa. The NCW says it aims to equip senior officials with tools and sensitivity to make governance more inclusive for women.

On Friday, Rahatkar will attend a special event for “Poshan Mah” (Nutrition Month) at Ayushman Arogya Mandir in Gomtimala, Vanakbara, Diu. It’s all about boosting health awareness in the community.

Rahatkar emphasized NCW’s ongoing efforts for women’s safety, sensitivity, and empowerment. In another X post, she highlighted key initiatives like YASHODA AI, National Commission for Women at Your Doorstep, Campus Calling, ‘Tere Mere Sapne’, Digital Shakti, and She is a Changemaker. These programs spread awareness, offer protection, and build leadership skills for women everywhere.

In a heartwarming update, Rahatkar celebrated 14-year-old Vasundhara Nangre from Kalamb in Maharashtra’s Yavatmal district. Despite challenges in a farming community with her schoolteacher father’s modest income, Vasundhara has become India’s top squash player in the under-15 category. “The tough circumstances only fueled her determination,” Rahatkar noted, praising her inspiring journey in women’s sports achievements.
