NDA delegation to visit Karur to look into circumstances of stampede, meet affected families

An eight-member team of leaders from India’s National Democratic Alliance (NDA) heads to Karur in Tamil Nadu today to investigate the deadly stampede that struck a TVK party rally. The group, put together by BJP chief JP Nadda, aims to uncover what went wrong and why so many lives were lost.
The delegation includes prominent faces like BJP MPs Anurag Thakur, Tejasvi Surya, Brajesh Pathak, and Aparajita Sarangi, along with Rekha Sharma. It also features Shiv Sena’s Shrikant Shinde and Telugu Desam Party’s Putta Mahesh Kumar. BJP MP Hema Malini leads the team as convenor.
The Karur stampede tragedy on Saturday has claimed 41 lives so far, including 18 women and 10 children. A statement from the group says they’ll meet families hit hardest by the disaster and deliver a full report after checking the scene firsthand.
Nadda shared his deep sorrow over the incident, offering condolences to the grieving families. He also wished a quick recovery for those still hurt in the Tamil Nadu rally chaos.
Earlier today, Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman joined Union Minister L Murugan and Tamil Nadu BJP chief Nainar Nagendran to comfort the victims’ families. They promised full support during this tough time and visited the Government Medical College Hospital in Karur to see the injured.
Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin called for big changes in a video message on X (formerly Twitter). He urged political parties and groups to set strict rules for handling public events safely, labeling the Karur stampede a “great tragedy” that “should never happen again.” Stalin shared how the heartbreaking hospital scenes linger with him. As soon as he heard about the stampede, he directed district officials to act fast and provide all needed help.
