Bengaluru MP Tejasvi Surya has some great news for travelers: India’s Railways Ministry just approved a new superfast train connecting Bengaluru and Mumbai. This move answers a long-standing demand from residents of both bustling cities that’s been around for 30 years.
Surya shared that Railways Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw personally assured him the new Bengaluru to Mumbai train service will soon get underway. Vaishnaw highlighted how Bengaluru and Mumbai stand as key economic powerhouses in India. Recent upgrades to station capacities have finally paved the way for this exciting addition to Indian Railways.
For years, these two major hubs relied on just one daily train—the Udyan Express—which drags on for more than 24 hours. Surya pointed out the irony: despite booming growth in both cities, rail options stayed limited. Last year alone, over 2.6 million people flew between Bengaluru and Mumbai, showing the huge demand for faster, cheaper travel.
“This new superfast train between Bengaluru and Mumbai will make journeys more affordable and hassle-free for millions,” Surya said. He credited his persistent push on the issue over the past four years, including raising it in Parliament, Public Accounts Committee sessions, and chats with top Railway officials.
Vaishnaw praised Surya’s dedication, saying, “I’m thrilled that Tejasvi ji kept following up for this superfast train from Bengaluru to Mumbai. Thank you for championing Bengaluru’s needs so effectively.”
The upcoming Bengaluru Mumbai train promises to ease overcrowding on existing routes and offer a comfy option compared to pricey flights or bumpy bus rides. It should also deepen economic and social links between these vibrant metros.
Surya thanked Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Vaishnaw for turning this dream into reality. He also gave a shoutout to Minister of State for Railways V. Somanna for his key support.
Daily commuters, business folks, and families stand to gain the most from this new service. It will supercharge connectivity between two of India’s most dynamic cities, making travel between Bengaluru and Mumbai smoother than ever.
