VIJAYAWADA, India — Union Civil Aviation Minister Kinjarapu Rammohan Naidu shared exciting updates on Vijayawada International Airport during a visit on Monday. He announced that the new Integrated Terminal Building is moving ahead quickly and should wrap up construction in just a few months. Once finished, it’ll boost the airport’s ability to handle way more passengers, making travel smoother for everyone.
Naidu spoke at the launch of the Udan Yatri Cafe right there at the airport. This spot aims to make flying more enjoyable with cheap, tasty options — think tea for just 10 rupees or coffee, snacks, and sweets for 20 rupees. It’s the seventh airport in India to get one, and the sixth run by the Airports Authority of India (AAI), joining places like Kolkata, Pune, Chennai, Bhubaneswar, Ahmedabad, and Hollongi.
The minister stressed how the Udan Yatri Cafe fits into a bigger push for affordable air travel. “No air passenger should travel with an empty stomach,” he said, promising more of these cafes will pop up at airports nationwide in stages.
Naidu also gave a sneak peek at upcoming flights from Vijayawada International Airport. A new direct route to Singapore is coming soon, and fresh domestic connections to Ahmedabad, Varanasi, and Pune are on the way too. These changes should open up more travel options for passengers in Andhra Pradesh and beyond.
As part of the government’s ‘Ek Ped Maa ke Naam’ tree-planting drive, Naidu planted a sapling on the airport’s city side. Joining him were Vijayawada MP Kesineni Sivanath, AAI’s Dr. Sharad Kumar (Operations) and Dr. H. Srinivas (HR), plus other senior officials.
Later, Naidu shared his thoughts on X, calling the cafe a big win for traveler comfort and value. It lines up with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s goal of making air travel accessible to all. He chatted with passengers during the visit and loved hearing their positive reactions.
“Looking forward, we’ll make sure every airport in India has a Udan Yatri Cafe,” Naidu added. “This strengthens our focus on budget-friendly services and better experiences for flyers everywhere.”
