Guwahati, Oct 25 – The Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) has rolled out a range of passenger‑friendly upgrades to make festive travel safe and comfortable for everyone.
City officials say the main stations – Katihar, New Jalpaiguri, Guwahati, Jogbani and Kishanganj – are now set up with dedicated waiting areas full of basic comforts. Clean drinking water, toilets, fans and plenty of seats have been installed to keep commuters relaxed. Real‑time information screens and clear route signage help travelers stay informed.
A key part of the festive touch is music. Chhath Geet singers perform at stations like Katihar, Kishanganj, Barsoi and Jogbani, creating a lively, welcoming atmosphere. At Katihar, an NGO has stepped in to serve water and “sarbat” to those waiting in the holding zone.
NFR managers at the regional level met with passengers, NGO volunteers and railway staff to thank them for their support and to confirm that the new facilities meet the highest comfort standards. Travelers thank the NFR for the tidy waiting areas that make their busier days easier.
To keep up with the increased crowd during Puja, Diwali and Chhath, the railway has added 620 extra festival trains across its network. Normally, more than 200 trains run every day through the NFR lanes, serving thousands of passengers.
Additional safety and service measures are in place all day and night. Extra Railway Protection Force (RPF) and Guard of Railway Police (GRP) officers, commercial staff and security teams patrol stations and trains. Queue‑management tools, automatic ticket machines, CCTV, drones, Segway scooters and war rooms at divisional offices add extra layers of protection.
“Teamwork, vigilance and a passenger‑first attitude keep us focused on giving travelers a safe, efficient and enjoyable journey,” said the NFR chief public relations officer. “We want every trip to reflect the joyous spirit of this festive season and show the Railway’s commitment to passenger well‑being.”
The Northeast Frontier Railway serves the Northeast states, seven districts of West Bengal and five districts of North Bihar.
