India’s National Investigation Agency (NIA) has filed charges against a father-son pair tied to the banned CPI (Maoist) group for the shocking murder of BJP leader Ratan Dubey in Chhattisgarh’s Narayanpur district. The duo, Shivanand Nag and his father Narayan Prasad Nag, face charges under key sections of the Indian Penal Code and the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act.
The NIA submitted this second supplementary chargesheet to the special court in Jagdalpur on Friday. Investigators say the two men were active members of the Maoist outfit and had deep political, business, and personal grudges against Dubey.
The brutal attack happened in November 2023 during an election campaign in Koushalnar village, part of the Jharaghati area. Assailants hacked Dubey to death with hand axes right in the middle of a busy weekly market. The goal was clear: scare locals and throw a wrench into the voting process.
NIA officials point out that the Nag duo played a key role in the conspiracy behind the killing, which Maoist leaders from the Bayanan and Barsoor Area Committees in the East Bastar Division planned. They even roped in overground workers—everyday supporters who help from the shadows.
The agency stepped in to lead the investigation back in February 2024. Earlier this year, in June, they charged Dhan Singh Korram. Then, in December, they arrested and charged Sainuram Korram and Laluram Korram for their roles in this Maoist violence case.
This case carries the number RC-08/2024/NIA/RPR, and the probe keeps going as NIA hunts for more suspects in the wider plot. It’s a big move toward holding accountable those behind targeted political killings and ongoing Maoist attacks in Chhattisgarh’s troubled areas.
