Hyderabad police arrested a Nigerian national and sent him back to his home country to stop him from hurting the city’s safety and public health.
On Saturday, the Hyderabad Narcotic Enforcement Wing (H‑NEW) seized Onuorah Solomon Chibueze, a 46‑year‑old from Nigeria, who had been living in India illegally for years. The Deputy Commissioner of Police, Y.V.S. Sudheendra, confirmed that the man was deported after a brief detention.
Chibueze first arrived in India in 2014 with a medical visa. He worked in restaurants in Delhi and later in Bengaluru, and even exported clothes to Nigeria. In September 2024 he moved to Hyderabad, living in the Attapur area. Police say he bought weed (ganja) from Pune and Mumbai and sold it in Hyderabad at high prices, earning a flashy lifestyle.
He was caught walking suspiciously inside the Toli Chowki Police Station compound. When officers questioned him, he could not produce a passport or visa and admitted he had overstayed in India even after his visa and passport expired.
The Nigerian’s visa expired in September 2014 and his passport in 2016. Since then, he lived illegally in India, mingled with drug dealers and engaged in unlawful activity. H‑NEW worked with the Foreigners Registration Officer and the Nigerian High Commission to secure an emergency travel document, an exit permit and a flight from Rajiv Gandhi International Airport.
H‑NEW’s officer G.S. Daniel led a team that escorted Chibueze back to Nigeria. Police warn that many foreigners on short‑term visas—medical, student, or business—remain in the country and become involved in crime after their documents expire.
The Hyderabad Narcotic Enforcement Wing urges residents to avoid drugs and encourages parents to keep a close eye on their children’s activities.
