Nitish Kumar offers prayers at Patan Devi temple on Mahaashtami

Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar kicked off the vibrant Durga Puja celebrations in Patna with a heartfelt visit to the historic Patan Devi temple on Tuesday, marking the auspicious Mahaashtami. Joined by Water Resources Minister Vijay Kumar Choudhary, Principal Secretary Deepak Kumar, and a team of senior officials, he offered prayers to Goddess Durga, seeking peace and prosperity for the state.

Temple priests welcomed the chief minister with a traditional Mata Ki Chunri before he stepped into the sanctum to pay his respects. After the rituals, Nitish Kumar headed out to explore several Durga Puja pandals across Patna. He greeted enthusiastic devotees and checked out the colorful festive setups, spreading joy amid the holiday spirit.

The day before, on Mahasaptami, Nitish Kumar had already dived into the festivities. He visited key spots like the Shri Shri Durga Puja Mahotsav Shiv Mandir in Khajpura and the Shri Shri Durga Ashram in Sheikhpura. There, he performed rituals at the Shiv Temple and shared warm Durga Puja greetings with Bihar’s people, highlighting the festival’s role in bringing communities together.

Patna buzzed with energy as massive crowds gathered at popular pandals, creating a lively mix of devotion and culture. Hotspots included Dak Bungalow Square, Bakarganj, Fraser Road, Ashok Rajpath, Boring Road, Patliputra Colony, Rajvanshi Nagar, Gola Road, Danapur, Patna City, and Malsalami. Families and friends thronged these sites to soak in the rituals and decorations.

To keep things smooth amid the rush, Patna Traffic Police rolled out special diversions. Traffic SP Aparajit Lohan explained that routes like Bailey Road and Dak Bungalow Square now follow new paths to ease congestion. For instance, vehicles from Patna Junction heading to Dak Bungalow Chowk detour via Harding Road and Veer Chand Patel Path. “We urge everyone to stick to the traffic rules, enjoy the pandals safely, and skip any rumors,” Lohan added.

As Maha Navami and Dussehra approach, Patna’s Durga Puja festivities show no signs of slowing down. The city pulses with religious fervor, stunning pandal displays, and a strong sense of togetherness during this cherished Bihar festival season.
