The Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) of Bihar told reporters on Friday that no District Magistrates made appeals under Section 24(A) of the Representation of the People Act to add or delete names from the electoral roll during the 2025 Special Intensive Revision (SIR) Campaign. The central election body said the same for all 243 assembly constituencies before October 9, 2025.
Across Bihar’s 38 districts, District Magistrates reported zero appeals. The CEO posted the same message on X, confirming that no appeals were filed in any assembly seat.
Earlier this week, the Supreme Court asked the Bihar State Legal Service Authority (BSLSA) to direct its district offices to help voters who were excluded from the final roll after the SIR. Justice Surya Kant and Justice Joymalya Bagchi ordered the BSLSA to ensure that paralegal volunteers and legal aid counsels are available for those excluded voters to file appeals with the Election Commission of India (ECI).
The Supreme Court was hearing a batch of petitions challenging the SIR order. The ECI told the apex court that it had notified a final electoral list. The new list mainly adds new voters, with only a few name changes for old voters.
Congress General Secretary Jairam Ramesh criticized the final roll, saying irregularities surfaced after the SIR. In an X post, he alleged that a single household listed 247 voters and that one name appeared three times on the same booth. Ramesh accused the Election Commission of orchestrating the SIR to favour the ruling BJP and called it the “BJP B‑team”.
The Election Commission released a press statement explaining the changes to the roll. It said the draft list as of August 1, 2025, contained 7.24 million voters after removing 65 lakh people. The commission removed 366,000 ineligible voters and added 2.153 million eligible voters, raising the total to 7.42 million voters.
The updates come as political parties and voters alike watch the renewal of Bihar’s electoral rolls, a key step before the next elections.
