In New Delhi on October 12, All India Majlis‑e‑Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) chief Asaduddin Owaisi said his party had not yet decided whether it would team up with the Indian National Congress for the upcoming Jubilee Hills by‑poll in Telangana.
The by‑election will take place on November 11, with votes counted on November 14. Congress has already chosen Naveen Yadav to contest the seat, after the previous representative, BRS MLA Maganti Gopinath, passed away. Mallikarjun Kharge, the Congress president, has formally approved Yadav’s candidature.
When asked about alliances, Owaisi made it clear that no decision has been reached. “There is no alliance with Congress yet,” he told . He added that AIMIM will base its choice on the political context closer to the election.
Owaisi also spoke about his connections in Telangana. He described a friendly relationship with Chief Minister Revanth Reddy and praised the CM’s role in launching the Hyderabad Old City Metro. “Revanth Reddy met us to discuss the metro’s cost. I mentioned ₹2000 crore, and within a few days he signed the GO and set a launch date,” Owaisi said.
When people asked whether he had ties with the Bharatiya Janata Party, Owaisi said he has no political affiliation with the BJP. He noted that he does meet with ministers on work related to his constituency. “I met Union Minister Giriraj Singh to discuss power looms in Malegaon,” he explained. “I’m politically opposed to the BJP, but I’ll do what’s necessary for the people.”
Owaisi wrapped up by emphasizing AIMIM’s commitment to its ideology and people. “We won’t compromise our principles for politics or for any party,” he said. The by‑poll’s outcome will shape Telangana’s political landscape, and AIMIM’s next move remains pending.
