‘No one is above the law’: Rajasthan Minister on Sonam Wangchuk’s arrest

Rajasthan’s Minister of State for Home Affairs, Jawahar Singh Bedham, made it clear on Saturday: anyone who breaks the law or turns to crime will face tough consequences. “No one is above the law,” he told reporters in Alwar.

His comments came amid questions about the arrest of Ladakhi activist Sonam Wangchuk. Authorities brought him to Rajasthan under heavy security and placed him in Jodhpur Central Jail. Bedham stressed that the law treats everyone the same, and the state government stands firm on maintaining order and delivering justice.

He didn’t hold back when criticizing the previous Congress government in Rajasthan. “Crime hit record highs back then—murders, robberies, and rapes became everyday issues, turning the state into a total ‘Jungle Raj’,” Bedham said.

Things have changed since the BJP took over, he added. Law and order in Rajasthan has gotten much better, with fewer attacks on women, Scheduled Castes, and Scheduled Tribes. Police now handle crimes more effectively, cracking down harder than before.

Bedham also highlighted a growing worry: the surge in cyber crime across the state. “We’re not just punishing offenders—we’re educating people to avoid online scams,” he explained. To fight back, Rajasthan police have brought in specialist officers and opened dedicated cyber police stations. They’ve even assigned Deputy Superintendent of Police-level leaders to oversee operations, leading to a drop in cyber fraud cases.

Overall, Bedham reaffirmed the BJP-led government’s dedication to keeping Rajasthan safe. From old-school crimes to new digital threats, they’re ready to step in strong and fair, ensuring security and justice for every resident.
