In a recent interview, RJD leader Mrityunjay Tiwari praised Tejashwi Yadav’s bold promise to create government jobs for every household in Bihar. Tiwari said Yadav’s 2020 campaign slogan of 10 lakh jobs set a new national debate on employment that no other party had tackled before.
“Before 2020, no political party talked about jobs,” Tiwari told . “Tejashwi sparked the conversation. Now every state is discussing employment.” He highlighted that the RJD, while in the ruling alliance, delivered 5 lakh jobs in just 17 months, proving that the promise can be kept.
During the same interview, Tiwari took on criticism from the National Democratic Alliance (NDA). He noted that the BJP and its partners once said providing jobs was impossible, yet Yadav fulfilled the pledge. “It’s a battle between truth and falsehood,” he said.
Bihar’s BJP minister, Hari Sahni, struck back at Yadav’s claims. Sahni reminded that the RJD’s earlier governments had offered less than one percent of job openings, and even now Bihar has fewer than 50 lakh jobs. “When they are in power they serve their families,” Sahni said, accusing Yadav of chasing false promises.
The controversy follows Yadav’s Thursday announcement of a new law that would give a government job to any family that doesn’t already have one within 20 days of taking office. Yadav said he would not need to show proof of implementation because the people of Bihar already trust he will deliver. The RJD claims that under Yadav’s plan, no family in Bihar should be job‑less within 20 months of the new government forming.
Conservative voices question whether the promise is realistic, while RJD supporters see it as a historic step toward economic and social justice. The debate continues as Bihar heads into the upcoming elections, with job creation at the core of political promises.
