Maharashtra Pushes ‘No PUC No Fuel’ Rule at Petrol Pumps to Curb Pollution
In a bold move to fight air pollution, Maharashtra Transport Minister Pratap Sarnaik has ordered the state to roll out the ‘No PUC No Fuel’ initiative at every petrol pump. This comes as a big step to ensure cleaner air for everyone in Mumbai and beyond.
Speaking at a department meeting on Wednesday, Sarnaik stressed the need for valid Pollution Under Control (PUC) certificates for all vehicles. "We must act now to give our kids a pollution-free future," he said. "The current generation needs to adopt eco-friendly habits, starting with checking PUC certificates before refueling."
The minister wants to shut down the racket of fake PUC certificates completely. Under the new rule, petrol pumps will scan vehicle numbers using CCTV footage to verify PUC validity. If a vehicle’s certificate is expired, no fuel for them! To make things easy, pumps will even issue fresh PUC certificates on the spot. These certificates will come with a unique ID for quick checks anytime.
Sarnaik also announced plans to issue PUC certificates right at vehicle showrooms and repair garages. This way, every car, bike, or truck on Maharashtra’s roads will have a valid one, helping slash pollution levels from vehicles.
On top of that, the Transport Department will launch a massive crackdown on gangs peddling illegal PUC certificates. The minister reviewed progress on other fronts too, like installing fire early warning systems in department offices and building new transport facilities.
This initiative could transform how we tackle vehicle pollution in India, making sure no one skips their PUC check. Stay tuned for updates on how Maharashtra implements this game-changer.
