New Delhi, Oct. 6 – A man in a lawyer’s robe tried to disrupt a Supreme Court hearing on Monday, but the Chief Justice, B. R. Gavai, decided not to take any action against him.
The intruder stepped onto the dais and allegedly tried to throw an object at the bench. Security moved quickly, took him out of the courtroom, and shouted while the man uttered slogans about Sanatan Dharma. The proceedings stopped for a moment, but CJI Gavai stayed calm and carried on with the hearing.
When asked about the incident, the chief justice urged the participants not to let the disruption affect the court. He told reporters that the matter should be ignored and no further action would be taken against the intruder.
The Supreme Court Advocates‑on‑Record Association (SCAORA) reacted strongly. The group passed a unanimous resolution condemning the man’s “unwarranted” and “intemperate” gesture. They said the act was “unbecoming” and damaged the respect between the bench and the bar. SCAORA warned that any attack on sitting judges threatens the independence of the judiciary and erodes public trust in justice.
The association called on the court itself to open a contempt probe and take suo‑motu action. They described the act as a deliberate attempt to scandalise Supreme Court authority and lower its dignity in the public eye. The resolution added that freedom of speech, while essential, must come with restraint—especially for legal professionals who act as court officers.
