Odisha Government Cracks Down on Unauthorized Visits by Officials to Bhubaneswar Offices
The Odisha government is taking a firm stand against officers skipping their duties to hang around state offices without permission. In a recent move, the state Revenue and Disaster Management department has asked all district collectors to warn Odisha Administrative Service (OAS) and Odisha Revenue Service (ORS) officers. These officials must stop visiting Lok Seva Bhawan—the main secretariat—and other government department headquarters in Bhubaneswar without prior approval.
The department sent a strongly-worded letter to collectors across all districts, voicing serious concerns over these unauthorized visits. They pointed out that many OAS and ORS officers are going missing from their own headquarters without any permission. Instead, these officers show up unannounced in the corridors of Lok Seva Bhawan and other key state offices during working hours, often to handle personal matters.
This trend worries the department a lot. It means officers aren’t at their posts, which delays important revenue-related services for the public. People end up waiting longer for things like land records or tax issues because these officials prioritize personal trips over their jobs.
To fix this, the revenue department has instructed district collectors to immediately caution these erring officers. They must tell them to stop these unauthorized visits right away. The government has also made it clear: if anyone gets caught doing this again, strict disciplinary action will follow. No exceptions!
The letter ends with a strong warning to collectors: "Treat this as extremely important and make sure all your subordinate officers know about it." This step aims to ensure better accountability among Odisha government officers and smoother service delivery for citizens.
This development highlights the Odisha government’s push for discipline in its administrative services, especially amid growing complaints about official absenteeism. Stay tuned for more updates on Odisha news and government initiatives.
