Bhubaneswar – Odisha police arrested a drug trafficker, Sk Akbar, and seized about 40 lakhs worth of illegal narcotics in a raid near the city’s Airfield Police station.
The 30‑year‑old suspect, who lives in Arada Bazar in the Sahadevkhunta area of Balasore district, was caught while waiting to sell “Brown Sugar” near Lingaraj Road Railway Station. Police said they had been tipped off by intelligence and that the Special Crime Unit (SCU) of Commissionerate Police carried out a coordinated surveillance operation.
When the officers moved in, Akbar offered 400 grams of the drug but did not resist arrest. The SCU confiscated the contraband and is now interrogating him to learn more about his network and how the drugs move within Bhubaneswar.
The Commissionerate said the operation is a major win for the city’s ongoing anti‑drug campaign. “Our goal is to dismantle criminal syndicates and bring offenders to justice,” the police stated. They also said they will keep the community informed as investigators trace the supply chain and uncover any wider criminal links.
Police urged citizens to stay alert and report any suspicious drug activity. They continue searching for the main accused, Sk Sadik Mohammad, who is linked to the same case but has not yet been arrested.
