In Bhubaneswar, Odisha Governor Hari Babu Kambhampati made a strong push for electric vehicles (EVs) during the 42nd Foundation Day of the Odisha State Pollution Control Board (OSPCB) on Monday. He urged people, especially in the state’s fast-growing cities, to switch to EVs to cut down on pollution and break free from fossil fuels.

Speaking at the event, the Governor stressed the importance of teaming up to protect the environment and build a healthier future. “We all need to act now for a cleaner Odisha,” he said, highlighting how EVs can make a big difference in reducing air pollution and carbon emissions.

He shared an exciting update: the Raj Bhavan’s official vehicles have already gone fully electric, slashing their carbon footprint and inspiring others to follow suit. This move shows how simple changes can lead to real environmental benefits.

The Governor didn’t stop there. He encouraged everyone to install rooftop solar panels, noting how they can slash electricity bills while boosting clean energy adoption. Plus, government schemes like PM Surya Ghar Yojana offer subsidies to make it easier and more affordable.

Looking back at OSPCB’s 40 years of work, Kambhampati praised the board for guiding industries to grow responsibly without harming the planet. “This foundation day celebrates their smart, forward-thinking efforts to keep Odisha green,” he added.

He also called on citizens and students to join the state’s huge plantation drive launching on September 17. The initiative aims to plant 75 lakh saplings across Odisha, expanding green cover, improving air quality, and fighting climate change impacts.

Kambhampati applauded OSPCB’s ongoing projects, like improving air quality, restoring rivers, and using real-time monitoring for industries and water bodies. He gave a thumbs up to the state government’s efforts, including e-buses, EV subsidies, interest-free loans, and promoting rooftop solar under national programs.

Pollution, he warned, threatens our health, jobs, and kids’ future. To tackle it, he asked people to cut plastic use, handle e-waste properly, save water, plant more trees, and embrace renewable energy sources.

Finally, the Governor motivated OSPCB to dream big for the next decade—focusing on green technologies, zero-waste factories, involving youth, and using digital tools for better environmental monitoring. With these steps, Odisha can lead the way in sustainable development.
