In Ahmedabad, BJP spokesperson Rohan Gupta took a strong stand on Friday against the escalating poster war between “I Love Muhammad” and “I Love Mahadev” campaigns. He slammed the Opposition for what he called classic appeasement politics, warning them to stop stirring up divisions for votes.
Talking to reporters, Gupta said the whole mess shows how deeply appeasement politics has gripped India. “It starts with a provocative move, sparks a backlash, and then everyone cries foul—for no good reason,” he explained. “Plenty of people here love Muhammad, and just as many revere Mahadev. So why turn that into a political battle?”
Gupta stressed that both feelings can live side by side without trouble. “The Opposition needs to quit using religious identities to fan flames,” he added. “Appeasement politics won’t fly anymore.”
He also weighed in on the growing tensions between AIMIM leader Asaduddin Owaisi and the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) over a possible pre-poll alliance. Owaisi called out RJD for staying silent on the matter, and Gupta used it to highlight what he sees as the Opposition’s shaky ground. “Their game is all about splitting votes and chasing power,” Gupta said. “One day it’s about ideology, the next it’s saving the Constitution or defending Muslim women’s rights. But when alliance talks heat up, everything crumbles. Where’s that ideology then?”
Gupta then turned to brighter news: India’s impressive climb in the Global Innovation Index 2025. The country jumped to 38th place, up from 81st in 2015 and 48th in 2020, according to the World Intellectual Property Organisation (WIPO). This puts India at the top in South and Central Asia and among lower-middle-income economies.
“Critics who bash India’s growth and label it a ‘one-and-a-half economy’ should take a good look now,” Gupta quipped. “This ranking, based on research and innovation strengths, is a real wake-up call for them. India’s innovation surge proves we’re on the right track—what more evidence do they want?”
