Guwahati – In a ceremony at the Veterinary College playground in Khanapara, Assam’s Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma handed out appointment letters to 5,550 qualified teachers today. The BJP‑led state government has already placed 1,26,793 young people in government jobs since taking office, smashing the 1‑lakh‑jobs pledge that triggered the 2021 election.
Sarma presented the letters for 3,800 lower‑primary teachers and 1,750 upper‑primary teachers, explaining that the success comes from a new, fully transparent recruitment system. “Before me, no chief minister in Assam had offered more than 25,000 jobs in a single term,” he said. “We have exceeded the one‑lakh target and are now on our way to 1.5 lakh.”
The event also marked the launch of 8,799 tablets for teachers under the Shikshak Samal Package and the distribution of 4,280 tablets to students through the Aarohan Scheme. “Today Assam’s youth can earn jobs through merit, not favoritism,” Sarma added, noting that the recent hiring drives have not faced legal challenges.
Looking ahead, the chief minister highlighted the state’s industrial boom—projects like the Jagiroad semiconductor plant, Numaligarh bio‑refinery, Chapar thermal power plant and Namrup fertiliser plant will demand a skilled workforce. He also touted new educational initiatives: 16 universities, women’s colleges in remote regions, and schools in tea‑garden areas.
The ceremony was attended by Education Minister Ranoj Pegu and other senior officials. Sarma urged the newly appointed teachers to bring honesty, dedication, and passion to their classrooms, calling them the “foundation of Assam’s future.”
