Raipur, Oct 16 – Deputy Chief Minister Vijay Sharma says Chhattisgarh is about to mark a turning point in its fight against Naxalite rebels. He told reporters that more than 100 Maoist members will walk into a formal surrender ceremony in Jagdalpur in the next 15 hours.
“We’ll give them a red‑carpet welcome,” Sharma said. “They want to return to society, and the government will support them under our rehabilitation policy.” The event will take place on Friday, Oct 17, with Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai in attendance.
On the day, Maoist leaders led by Rupesh will lay down over 100 weapons, officially ending their insurgent activities. Commanders like Sonu Dada and Prabhakar have already turned themselves in, showing the Naxalite grip in the region is loosening.
The state has already seen success. In the past 20 months, 1,876 Maoists have surrendered and joined mainstream life, benefiting from programs that offer education, jobs and community support. These initiatives have been key in turning former insurgents into contributors to local development.
The Jagdalpur surrender ceremony will further crack down on the long‑standing Maoist threat in Chhattisgarh’s tribal districts. By providing a clear path to reintegration, the government hopes to build lasting peace and stability while tackling the root causes that drive people into insurgency.
With more than 100 rebels scheduled to surrender, the event signals a significant shift in Chhattisgarh’s struggle against Naxalism. The government’s proactive approach aims to keep the momentum of peacebuilding strong, paving the way for a future where former Maoists become positive members of society.
