Over 100 mobile phones, several gold chains stolen during Lalbaugcha Raja immersion in Mumbai

Thefts Mar Mumbai’s Lalbaugcha Raja Ganesh Immersion: Over 100 Phones Stolen Amid Massive Crowds

Mumbai’s iconic Ganesh festival just wrapped up with the grand immersion of Lalbaugcha Raja, but the celebrations turned sour for many devotees due to a wave of thefts. Thieves struck in the huge crowds, snatching mobile phones and gold chains from excited worshippers.

The procession kicked off from Lalbaug and ended at Girgaon Chowpatty after a whopping 32 to 35 hours. Lakhs of people joined in, creating the perfect chaos for criminals to go unnoticed. Devotees poured out their hearts in devotion, but some ended up losing their valuables to sneaky gangs.

Mumbai Police reported more than 100 mobile phone thefts during the event. Frustrated victims lined up at Kalachowki police station to file complaints. So far, cops have registered 10 cases, recovered four stolen phones, and nabbed four suspects.

That’s not all—police also logged at least seven gold chain snatching incidents. They’ve got two chains back and detained 12 people linked to these crimes. Investigations show that organized theft gangs, who pop up every year during Ganesh immersions, were behind the spree.

In other news, Bhoiwada police cracked down on rule-breakers flying drones illegally over the procession. Security rules ban drones to keep things safe, and they’ve filed cases against those caught.

Even with heavy police presence during Ganeshotsav, these thefts have sparked big worries. Senior officers say tackling these gangs in such massive gatherings is tough, but they’re on the case. They promise more arrests and recoveries soon.

Police urge everyone to stay alert at big religious events like Ganesh processions. Don’t carry too many valuables, and keep your stuff secure—simple steps can prevent heartbreak.

These incidents put a damper on the festive vibe for many, challenging Mumbai Police big time. Still, their quick moves in some cases brought a bit of hope to affected devotees. Stay safe out there, folks!
