Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has good news for over 500,000 Scheduled Caste (SC) and Scheduled Tribe (ST) students. On Friday, he promised that these students, who missed out on scholarships because schools didn’t upload their details, will get their pending funds straight into their bank accounts before Diwali. The state has already set aside the money and will use the Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) system to make sure it reaches them quickly.
Speaking at a scholarship distribution event in Lucknow, Yogi Adityanath said officials will hold those responsible for the mix-up accountable. “We won’t let these mistakes happen again,” he added. During the ceremony, he handed out scholarships to more than 400,000 students right on the spot.
The chief minister pointed out how Uttar Pradesh’s push for student aid has grown big time. Back in 2017-18, the state spent about Rs 1,648 crore on scholarships. Now, for 2025-26, that number jumps to Rs 3,124 crore—nearly double. Thanks to tech and AI checks, payments come faster and fairer, without the old delays.
Yogi Adityanath recalled tougher times before his government took over. “In 2016, SC/ST scholarships didn’t get released at all. Things were late by months, and discrimination was common,” he said. His team cleared the backlog for 2016-17 and 2017-18, ensuring every eligible kid got what they deserved.
Official numbers show the impact. From 2017-18 to 2024-25, more than 1.23 crore SC/ST students received Rs 9,150 crore in Uttar Pradesh scholarships. Around 59 lakh general-category students got Rs 5,945 crore, and over 2 crore Other Backward Classes (OBC) students benefited from Rs 13,535 crore.
Yogi Adityanath praised Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s “One Nation, One Scholarship” scheme, which helps every student stay in school through graduation. The state is also building more residential schools like Kasturba Gandhi Vidyalayas and Atal Awasiya Vidyalayas. Plus, kids in basic education council schools get free uniforms, shoes, and sweaters.
He urged students to stay focused on studies and unity, warning against “divisive forces” that once split the country. “Under PM Modi’s leadership, we’re building a stronger India. Let’s make sure every child gets to school,” Yogi Adityanath said.
The event drew ministers like Narendra Kashyap, Aseem Arun, and Danish Azad Ansari, along with SC/ST Commission Chairman Baijnath Rawat, Mayor Sushma Kharkwal, MP Brijlal, and other leaders.
