Agartala, Dec 3 (LatestNewsX) – Tripura’s chief minister, Manik Saha, announced that more than 50,000 vehicles across the state now run on compressed natural gas (CNG), marking a clear move toward greener transport.
During the opening of a new CNG filling point in Khilpara, a village in Gomati district, Saha also revealed plans to set up additional stations in Fatikchhara and Bodhjungnagar, both in West Tripura. He noted that CNG’s global acceptance has grown thanks to advances in technology, and it is a key part of the BJP administration’s efforts to address everyday concerns of Tripura’s residents.
“The fuel is eco‑friendly. As societies progress, its popularity rises,” he said. “The Khilpara station will act as a hub, gradually supplying fuel to other areas.”
Saha thanked the Tripura Natural Gas Company Limited (TNGCL) for the project’s execution and mentioned the company’s intention to roll out more stations beyond Agartala and Udaipur, extending to other locations throughout the state. He emphasized that clean energy is essential for progress.
Since 2018, TNGCL has established approximately 31 CNG stations in Tripura. These outlets are now serving widespread regions, and the increased use of CNG is expected to significantly lower air pollution levels.
“This initiative enables substantial savings and promotes a healthier environment,” the chief minister added. He highlighted that the fuel is already supporting a diverse range of vehicles—over 50,000—throughout the state.
Auto drivers, taxi operators, and private car owners stand to benefit from this new facility, which cost ₹8 crore. TNGCL is also preparing to upgrade stations in Arundhuti Nagar and Barjala, according to Saha.
“Increasing the number of CNG points will directly help people,” he said. “We’re seeing growing confidence in Prime Minister Narendra Modi, as well as in our own state government.”
Saha announced that two land parcels in Mohanpur, West Tripura, have been earmarked for future CNG sites. After consulting with TNGCL, plans will move forward for stations at the Khayerpur‑Amtali bypass in West Tripura, as well as in Bagma, Amarpur, and Ampi in Gomati district.
Attending the ceremony were Finance Minister Pranajit Singha Roy, Industries and Commerce Minister Santana Chakma, Gomati District Zilla Sabhadhipati Debal Debroy, MLAs Abhishek Debroy and Jitendra Majumder, Udaipur Municipal Council Chairman Shital Chandra Majumder, Gomati District Magistrate Rinku Lather, Superintendent of Police Kiran Kumar K, TNGCL Managing Director Pralay Patra, and other government officials.
Founded in July 1990 as a joint venture between GAIL (India) Ltd, Tripura Industrial Development Corporation and Assam Gas Company Ltd, TNGCL is one of the fastest‑growing natural gas distributors in eastern India, supplying affordable, eco‑friendly gas to homes, businesses, industry, and transport across West Tripura and Gomati districts.
