In Chennai, AIADMK chief Edappadi K Palaniswami showered praise on the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) for standing firmly by his party, especially after the sad loss of former Tamil Nadu Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa. Speaking at a lively public meeting to celebrate the birth anniversary of ex-Chief Minister CN Annadurai, Palaniswami made it clear that the BJP has been a true ally, never issuing threats even when AIADMK was in power or now.
“After Amma’s (Jayalalithaa’s) passing, some folks tried to grab our party and even topple the government,” Palaniswami said, addressing the cheering crowd. “But you all know who stepped in to protect us—the Central government, led by the BJP. We can’t forget that kindness. As poet Thiruvalluvar taught, gratitude is key, and that’s why we stay strong with the BJP. No rifts here.”
He highlighted how the Centre has poured big money into Tamil Nadu’s growth. “We’ve got 63,000 crore rupees for the Metro Rail project and 11,500 crore for the Nandanai Vaazhi Cauvery scheme,” Palaniswami added. “Whatever we need, they’ve delivered without hesitation.”
But Palaniswami didn’t hold back his sharp criticism of the ruling DMK government. He slammed them for letting law and order crumble in Tamil Nadu. “Under DMK, things have gone from bad to worse,” he said. “Victims end up facing cases instead of justice, and even police officers aren’t safe. In just six months, six cops have been murdered, and patrol teams keep getting attacked.”
To drive his point home, he brought up the recent arrest of a DMK panchayat chairperson in a theft case. “If their own leaders are caught stealing, you can imagine the kind of people running the show,” Palaniswami remarked.
He went further, blasting the DMK for failing to stop the flood of illegal drugs across Tamil Nadu—from small villages to bustling cities. “Drugs are everywhere, sold without a care,” he charged. “I’ve raised this in the assembly and through the media time and again, begging them to crack down. But they ignore it. And guess who’s mostly behind the drug trade? DMK members.”
Palaniswami’s fiery speech underscores the ongoing AIADMK-BJP alliance and the heated political battles in Tamil Nadu, as the state gears up for future elections.
