Mysuru, Karnataka – On Oct. 18, Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah urged citizens to stay away from Sanatanis and align with those who push for social progress. He made the remarks after launching the Silver Jubilee celebrations of Mysore University and the new Jnana Darshan building.
CM Siddaramaiah warned of rising threats from the Sangh Parivar and the RSS. He said the groups “have opposed B.R. Ambedkar’s Constitution in the past and will do so again,” and called the BJP’s propaganda “false.” He blamed the party for spreading misinformation about Ambedkar’s legacy.
“We know the truth: Ambedkar himself wrote that he was defeated by Savarkar and Dange,” Siddaramaiah noted. “If we expose these lies, society will see who really drives change.” The CM praised Ambedkar as a visionary who used his studies to bring about social change, especially in India’s constitutional reforms.
He also highlighted his own initiatives. The CM said he founded the Ambedkar School of Economics so students can follow Ambedkar’s path. “Ambedkar is unique—no one can replace him, but everyone should walk in his footsteps,” he said.
Siddaramaiah described the history of Ambedkar’s work: “He studied constitutions worldwide, took the best ideas, and gave India the world’s finest constitution that fit our society.”
The leader referenced a recent shoe‑throwing incident at the Supreme Court. “That event shows remnants of orthodox, caste‑based, elite mindsets still exist,” he said. He urged everyone, not just Dalits, to oppose such acts to keep society moving forward.
“Only then can society stay on the path of change,” Siddaramaiah added. He said he believes in the ideas of Buddha, Basava and Ambedkar, and that rationality and a scientific temper are essential. Even after studying science, “do not remain superstitious.”
The CM welcomed the opening of the “World Scholar Ambedkar Sabha Bhavan,” marking the 25th anniversary of the Ambedkar Study Centre at Mysore University. He stressed that inequality stems from unequal opportunities. “Education isn’t inherited—it should be given to all,” he argued. “When people get that chance, they become learned and wise.”
Siddaramaiah closed by re‑affirming that Ambedkar was a great visionary who used knowledge for social transformation. The Karnataka CM’s calls for vigilance, truth‑telling and equal opportunity aim to strengthen the state’s commitment to democratic values and social justice.
