Prime Minister Narendra Modi issued a strong warning on Wednesday about threats to India’s unity in diversity, pointing to infiltrators who are driving demographic shifts. Speaking at the centenary celebrations of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) in New Delhi, he stressed that these changes could harm social harmony and India’s internal security.
Modi reminded the audience of his earlier call for a “Demographic Mission,” which he announced from the Red Fort. “Unity in diversity has always been India’s soul,” he said. “If this strength breaks, India will weaken. Social harmony faces a big threat from infiltrators causing a demographic shift. This touches our internal security and our future. That’s why I announced the Demographic Mission from the Red Fort. We must stay alert and fight this challenge.”
The RSS, founded exactly 100 years ago, holds special meaning for Modi. He noted that the organization started on Vijayadashami—a festival marking the triumph of good over evil, justice over injustice, truth over falsehood, and light over darkness. “The establishment of RSS on this great day 100 years ago was no coincidence,” Modi added. With Vijayadashami arriving tomorrow, the timing felt even more symbolic.
Modi also honored the RSS founder, Dr. Keshav Baliram Hedgewar, calling him a revered ideal for national service. “It’s our generation’s fortune to witness this centenary,” he told the gathering. “I extend my best wishes to the millions of volunteers dedicated to national service and congratulate them. I pay my humble tribute at the feet of Dr. Hedgewar ji.”
The RSS began in 1925 in Nagpur, Maharashtra, under Hedgewar’s leadership. As a volunteer group, it aims to build cultural awareness, discipline, service, and social responsibility among Indians.
