Prime Minister Narendra Modi praised the opening of Phase 2B of the Mumbai Metro Line‑3, calling it a major boost to the city’s transport system. In a post on X, he highlighted how the new stretch will improve daily life for Mumbai residents and strengthen the city’s growing network.
The Phase 2B section runs from Acharya Atre Chowk to Cuffe Parade, a route worth about ₹12,200 crore. Modi also announced that the full Aqua Line will be handed over to the nation, covering 33.5 km with 27 stations and handling over 1.3 million riders each day. The line will become the first fully underground metro route in Mumbai, offering a fast and modern alternative to the busy streets.
Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis joined in, saying he was “all decked up and ready to serve Mumbaikars” and that the Prime Minister would soon flag off the new stretch. The new track will link South‑Mumbai heritage hubs like Fort, Kala Ghoda and Marine Drive with key business centers such as the Bombay High Court, Mantralaya, Reserve Bank of India, BSE and Nariman Point.
The expansion is set to integrate smoothly with the city’s other rail, metro and monorail lines, improving last‑mile connectivity and easing congestion across the Mumbai Metropolitan Region. Modi said the government remains committed to enhancing infrastructure and lifting the quality of living for Mumbai’s dynamic population.
