PM Modi inaugurates Combined Commanders’ Conference, calls for swift steps to achieve “greater jointness, Atmanirbharta”

Prime Minister Narendra Modi kicked off the 16th Combined Commanders Conference in Kolkata on Monday, shining a spotlight on the Indian Armed Forces’ stellar performance in Operation Sindoor and their key contributions to nation-building.
Speaking at the event, PM Modi praised the military’s successes and urged the Defence Ministry to roll out quick reforms in 2025. He focused on boosting jointness among the forces, promoting Atmanirbharta (self-reliance) in defence, and sparking innovation to tackle future threats head-on.
This biennial gathering, known as the Combined Commanders Conference, is the top platform where India’s top civilian and military leaders brainstorm on strengthening military preparedness. The theme this time? “Year of Reforms – Transformation for the Future,” perfectly aligning with the ongoing modernisation of the Armed Forces.
During the session, PM Modi got updates on the forces’ operational readiness post-Operation Sindoor, the evolving landscape of warfare with new tech and tactics, and a review of reforms from the past two years plus plans ahead.
He also commended the Armed Forces for their role in anti-piracy efforts, safely evacuating Indian citizens from conflict zones, and delivering Humanitarian Assistance and Disaster Relief (HADR) to friendly nations, according to a Defence Ministry statement.
Over the next two days, the conference will dive deep into structural, administrative, and operational issues. Expect discussions on force feedback, readiness amid global uncertainties, and a clear roadmap to bring PM Modi’s vision to life for a stronger India.
