In Guwahati, Prime Minister Narendra Modi kicked off a major boost for Assam’s energy sector on Sunday. He inaugurated a cutting-edge bioethanol plant and laid the foundation stone for a new polypropylene unit at Numaligarh Refinery Ltd (NRL) in Golaghat district. This move highlights India’s push towards green energy and sustainable development.
PM Modi didn’t stop there. He also launched the groundwork for several projects worth over Rs 18,530 crore in Darrang district. These initiatives promise to supercharge the region’s growth, creating jobs and improving infrastructure in Assam.
Speaking to a lively crowd, Modi praised Assam’s role in strengthening India’s energy backbone. “Assam powers India’s energy needs like no other. Petroleum products from here fuel the nation’s progress, and our government is taking this strength to the next level,” he said. His words fired up the audience, with many locals beaming with pride over the fresh wave of development projects heading their way.
For folks like Hridya Ranjan Das, it’s a game-changer. “Back in the day, not much happened for Assam, but under PM Modi’s leadership, things are really moving,” Das shared excitedly. He added, “I loved hearing his speech—keep up the great work for our country!”
Mitali Devi, who saw the Prime Minister up close for the first time, couldn’t hide her joy. “I’m so thrilled! Thank you, PM Modi, for bringing projects like the ring road and medical college to Assam,” she said, echoing the hopes of many who want him to visit more often.
Modi highlighted India’s fast track in renewable energy during his address. He pointed out how the country has jumped from lagging in solar power a decade ago to now ranking among the world’s top five. “In today’s world, we need alternatives to oil and gas to stay self-reliant,” he stressed, spotlighting ethanol as a smart choice.
A big highlight? The new bamboo-based ethanol plant at NRL. Modi explained how this will empower farmers and tribal communities in Assam, turning local resources into economic opportunities. With Assam playing a key role in India’s green energy revolution, these steps mark a brighter, more sustainable future for the state and the nation.
