Prime Minister Narendra Modi met newly elected Vice President C.P. Radhakrishnan in New Delhi on Tuesday and congratulated him on his big win. This marks Modi’s first official chat with India’s 15th Vice President, who just stepped into the role after a thrilling election.

In a quick post on X (formerly Twitter), Modi shared, “Met Thiru CP Radhakrishnan Ji and congratulated him on winning the Vice Presidential election.” He even tagged Radhakrishnan’s official handle, @CPRGuv, to spread the good vibes.

Radhakrishnan, a seasoned leader who has served as Governor of Jharkhand, Tamil Nadu, and now Maharashtra, clinched the Vice President of India position with 452 first-preference votes. He beat opposition candidate Justice (Retd) B. Sudarshan Reddy, who received 300 votes, in an election that had everyone watching closely.

As the new Vice President, Radhakrishnan will also take on the key role of Chairman of the Rajya Sabha, the Upper House of India’s Parliament. His background in public service and administration is set to bring fresh energy to these duties.

The celebrations didn’t stop there. Top leaders across the board showered Radhakrishnan with warm wishes right after his election victory. President Droupadi Murmu led the pack with her X message: “Congratulations to Shri C.P. Radhakrishnan on being elected as the Vice President of India! Your decades of rich experience in public life will contribute significantly to the nation’s progress. I extend my best wishes to you for a successful and impactful tenure.”

Union Home Minister Amit Shah praised Radhakrishnan’s rise from the grassroots and his sharp admin skills. “I firmly believe that your sagacity as a leader who has risen from the grassroots and profound knowledge about administration will help us bring out the best in our parliamentary democracy to serve the marginalised. I extend my warmest wishes to you for your journey as custodian of the sanctity of the Upper House,” Shah posted on X.

Union Road Transport and Highways Minister Nitin Gadkari highlighted Radhakrishnan’s commitment to democratic values. “His long-standing public service, commitment to democratic values and vision for the nation will undoubtedly enrich the august office he now assumes, while also strengthening India’s voice on global platforms,” he said.

Civil Aviation Minister Ram Mohan Naidu called the win a shining example of India’s vibrant democracy. “Best wishes for a fruitful and inspiring tenure ahead,” he added.

With leaders like Modi, Murmu, and Shah backing him, Radhakrishnan’s journey as Vice President of India looks promising. His election not only boosts the Rajya Sabha but also underscores the strength of India’s parliamentary system. Stay tuned for more updates on this exciting chapter in Indian politics!
