Prime Minister Narendra Modi met up with Vice President C.P. Radhakrishnan at the Vice-President’s Enclave in New Delhi on Sunday. The two leaders shared an insightful chat on a variety of topics, as Modi noted on X (formerly Twitter).
“Called on Vice President Thiru CP Radhakrishnan Ji and had an insightful discussion with him on a wide range of subjects,” Modi posted.
Radhakrishnan, who recently took office as India’s Vice President, echoed the positive vibes on his own X account. “Delighted to meet our Honourable Prime Minister Narendra Modi Ji today at Vice-President’s Enclave, New Delhi,” he wrote.
Earlier that day, Radhakrishnan traveled to Patna, the capital of Bihar, where he spoke at the closing session of the third Unmesha International Literature Festival. Drawing from his experiences, he shared a story about chatting with a European dignitary who wondered how India stays united amid its diverse languages and cultures. Radhakrishnan’s reply? “Despite the diversity of languages, our Dharma is one.”
He praised Bihar as an ancient intellectual hub, spotlighting legendary learning centers like Nalanda and Vikramshila Universities that shaped global knowledge. Radhakrishnan also highlighted the state’s key role in driving social change, pointing to Mahatma Gandhi’s Champaran Satyagraha and Lok Nayak Jayaprakash Narayan’s Total Revolution movement. At just 19, Radhakrishnan joined the revolution and later served as its District General Secretary.
“Bihar has always been a cradle of change and conscience,” he said, naming icons like India’s first President, Dr. Rajendra Prasad, and democracy’s guardian, Jayaprakash Narayan.
Radhakrishnan described Unmesha as a vibrant celebration of awakening ideas, fresh narratives, and diverse perspectives that connect people across languages, cultures, geography, and ideologies. He’s optimistic it will keep fueling literary culture and inspire tomorrow’s writers, thinkers, and readers.
He wrapped up by nodding to Bihar’s storied past, home to mighty empires like Magadha and Maurya, and the birthplace of democracy in Vaishali more than 2,500 years ago. This rich Indian history underscores Bihar’s enduring legacy in unity and innovation.
