PM Modi Slams Congress and RJD for Insulting Bihar at Purnea Rally
Prime Minister Narendra Modi fired strong words at the Congress and Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) during a lively rally in Purnea, Bihar, on Monday. He accused them of insulting the state, pointing to a now-deleted social media post by the Congress Kerala unit. The post mocked Bihar by linking it to beedi, a tobacco product that saw a GST cut.
Speaking to a huge crowd, PM Modi said opposition leaders hate Bihar’s progress and keep damaging its reputation. "Historic projects are happening here—Bihar-made railway engines are even going abroad. But whenever Bihar steps forward, these people start insulting it," he added.
Modi highlighted Bihar’s big achievements while launching projects worth ₹36,000 crore. These include a new airport terminal in Purnea and the National Makhana Board. He directly called out the Congress post: "You must have seen how RJD’s ally, Congress, compared Bihar to a beedi on social media. They hate Bihar so much and have hurt its image through scams and corruption."
The deleted X post from Congress Kerala joked that "Bidis and Bihar both start with B, and they’re no longer a sin" after the GST rate on beedis dropped to 18%. The party had criticized the GST reform for keeping a 40% rate on items like cigars and cigarettes, while beedis got a lower one.
PM Modi didn’t stop there. He charged that the opposition cares more about personal gains than people’s welfare. "They’re busy filling their safes. Why would they worry about the poor?" he asked the cheering crowd.
Earlier, Modi stressed his government’s focus on "Sabka Saath, Sabka Vishwas"—supporting everyone with trust. He contrasted this with RJD and Congress, saying they only look after their own families. "For them, the biggest worry is their family. They won’t care about yours. But for Modi, you all are my family. That’s why I say Sabka Saath, Sabka Vikas," he declared.
The PM also shared exciting news on GST cuts to help everyday folks save money. These changes kick in from September 22, right at the start of Navratri, just before Diwali and Chhath festivals. "Modi cares about your expenses and savings. We’ve given a huge gift to the poor and middle class," he said.
Daily essentials will get cheaper, making life easier. Toothpaste, soap, shampoo, ghee, and many food items now face lower GST. Stationery for kids’ studies will cost less, and festive shopping for clothes and shoes will be more affordable. Modi especially reached out to women in the crowd: "My mothers and sisters, your kitchen bills will drop big time. From toothpaste to ghee, everything gets cheaper."
He wrapped up by saying a government that truly cares for the poor always works for their benefit. The rally in Purnea showed Modi’s strong push for Bihar’s growth and his direct connect with voters ahead of key festivals.
