Assam’s Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma flew to New Delhi on Tuesday to meet Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The CM urged Modi to formally open two key projects that will reshape Assam’s future: a brand‑new terminal at Lokpriya Gopinath Bordoloi International Airport in Guwahati and a giant Rs 10,601 crore Ammonia‑Urea complex at Namrup.
On Twitter, Sarma said the Prime Minister “kindly consented” to inaugurate both projects. He highlighted the airport terminal’s modern design and sustainability features, explaining that it will let Guwahati handle more than 13 million passengers a year and position the city as a major aviation hub for Southeast Asia. The new terminal will ease congestion at the current airport and boost air travel for the entire North East region.
The second project, the Ammonia‑Urea plant in Namrup, will secure an essential fertilizer supply for the entire North East. Sarma described the complex as a “brown‑field” initiative that will create jobs and drive industrial growth in the area.
“This partnership shows the Centre’s ongoing commitment to Assam and the North East,” Sarma added. “These projects reflect the transformative journey we’ve embarked on, focusing on connectivity, industry and self‑reliance.”
Officials expect a large public turnout when Modi visits Assam to launch the projects, which are seen as game‑changers for regional development. “We are grateful that Adarniya Modi Ji has kindly consented,” the CM said. “We eagerly await his visit.”
