PM Modi Heads to Bihar: Big Rally and Rs 36,000 Crore Projects in Purnea

Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to bring a wave of excitement to Bihar with a grand rally in Purnea district. On this visit, he’ll kick off major development projects worth around Rs 36,000 crore, putting the spotlight on infrastructure, connectivity, and farmer support in the state.

First up, PM Modi will inaugurate the much-talked-about Purnea Airport. This marks Bihar’s fourth operational commercial airport, joining Patna, Gaya, and Darbhanga. He’ll open the Interim Terminal Building at the new Civil Enclave, which will boost passenger handling in northeastern Bihar and make travel smoother for locals.

Connectivity gets a big push too. In line with the government’s focus on better links, PM Modi will lay the foundation stone for the Bikramshila-Katareah rail line, a Rs 2,170 crore project that connects Seemanchal and Bhagalpur regions directly. He’ll also launch the Araria–Galgalia (Thakurganj) rail line worth Rs 4,410 crore.

Train enthusiasts will love this: PM Modi will flag off the Vande Bharat Express from Jogbani to Danapur, plus the Amrit Bharat Express linking Saharsa to Chheharta (Amritsar) and Jogbani to Erode. These new services will make life easier for people in districts like Araria, Purnea, Madhepura, Saharsa, Khagaria, Begusarai, Samastipur, Muzaffarpur, Vaishali, and Patna. They’ll even tie Bihar closer to Punjab and Tamil Nadu, opening up new travel and business opportunities.

Bihar’s farmers and producers are in for a treat with the launch of the National Makhana Board. This initiative will ramp up makhana production—Bihar supplies nearly 90% of India’s total—through new tech, better post-harvest handling, exports, and branding. Key makhana hubs like Madhubani, Darbhanga, Sitamarhi, Saharsa, Katihar, Purnea, Supaul, Kishanganj, and Araria stand to gain the most, helping boost local economies.

Energy and power projects shine bright on the agenda. PM Modi will lay the foundation for Bihar’s biggest private-sector investment: a 3×800 MW thermal power project at Pirpainti in Bhagalpur, costing Rs 25,000 crore. Using ultra-supercritical, low-emission tech, it promises stronger power supply and energy security for the state.

Water management takes center stage with Phase 1 of the Kosi-Mechi Intra-State River Link Project, valued at over Rs 2,680 crore. This involves upgrading canals, desilting, reconstruction, and boosting capacity to improve irrigation, tame floods, and build tougher agriculture in northeastern Bihar.

For dairy farmers, there’s innovation ahead. PM Modi will inaugurate a Sex-Sorted Semen Facility in Purnea—the first in eastern and northeastern India under the Rashtriya Gokul Mission. It will produce 5 lakh doses a year with homegrown tech, increasing chances of female calf births. This smart move cuts costs for cattle farmers and lifts their incomes.

Housing dreams come true for many as PM Modi joins Griha Pravesh ceremonies for 35,000 rural families under PMAY (R) and 5,920 urban ones under PMAY (U). He’ll hand over keys to some lucky recipients, celebrating new homes.

Women and rural communities get a boost too. PM Modi will distribute Rs 500 crore in Community Investment Funds to Cluster Level Federations under DAY-NRLM, empowering self-help groups and strengthening livelihoods.

The buzz doesn’t stop there—Union Home Minister Amit Shah and BJP national president JP Nadda will also head to Bihar next week, adding to the political energy. This visit promises to transform Bihar’s growth story, from airports and railways to farms and homes.
