Ahmedabad, Nov. 14 – Prime Minister Narendra Modi will travel to Gujarat this Saturday to tour the Mumbai‑Ahmedabad High‑Speed Rail Corridor (MAHSR), India’s flagship high‑speed rail project.
Around 10 a.m., Modi is set to walk through the under‑construction bullet‑train station in Surat, a key checkpoint on the 508‑km route that is poised to bring India into the age of high‑speed rail. The corridor will connect major cities – from Sabarmati and Ahmedabad to Vadodara, Bharuch, Surat, Bilimora, Vapi, Boisar, Virar, Thane and Mumbai.
The line stretches 352 km in Gujarat and 156 km in Maharashtra. To meet international safety and efficiency standards, about 465 km (roughly 85 %) runs on elevated viaducts, keeping at‑grade disruption to a minimum. 326 km of viaducts are already finished, and 17 of 25 planned river bridges have been completed.
Once open, the bullet train will cut travel time between Mumbai and Ahmedabad to around two hours, reshaping business, tourism and regional connectivity. Officials say the project will act as a catalyst for investment and economic development along the entire stretch.
Surat’s segment, the most advanced part of the line, spans about 47 km between Surat and Bilimora. Civil works and track‑bed laying are finished. The Surat station is designed to echo the city’s famous diamond industry, blending modern aesthetics with practical commuter services. The terminal will feature spacious lounges, restrooms, retail kiosks and direct links to the Surat Metro, city buses and Indian Railways.
Surat’s railway hub is rapidly becoming one of western India’s most modern transit points, thanks to an ongoing redevelopment programme that expands passenger amenities, improves circulation and enhances connectivity.
