New Delhi, Oct 12 – Political parties in Bihar have been busy in Delhi and Patna as they set up the seat‑share plan for the state’s assembly elections.
The ruling National Democratic Alliance (NDA) and the opposition Mahagathbandhan are negotiating who will run where. The BJP’s central election panel is expected to meet on Sunday to pick candidate names. Senior NDA leaders, including BJP chief JP Nadda, Home Minister Amit Shah, and BJP Bihar in‑charge Vinod Tawde, gathered at Nadda’s home on Saturday to hash out details.
NDA’s coalition includes the BJP, JD‑United, Lok Janshakti Party (Ram Vilas), Hindustani Awam Morcha (Secular) and Rashtriya Lok Morcha. In the capital, the Lok Janshakti Party held a meeting led by party chief Chirag Paswan. MP Shambhavi Chaudhary said the party’s parliamentary board met to discuss seat splits, with Paswan ultimately deciding the final allocation.
Sanjay Kumar Jha, JD‑United’s working president, said the NDA will form a government under Chief Minister Nitish Kumar after the results announced on November 14. He hailed the alliance’s teamwork and said the state will move into a “fifth gear” of progress after the elections on November 6 and 11.
Rashtriya Lok Morcha chief Upendra Kushwaha, who will travel to Delhi for stamp‑sharing talks, dismissed reports that seat allocation is already decided. “Discussions are still ongoing,” he said.
Chirag Paswan kept his comments brief, saying no seat‑sharing announcements would come until later. “I have nothing to say right now,” he added.
Meanwhile, the Janata Dal (Janata Dal) has announced its candidates on October 13. Founder Tej Pratap Yadav, the son of late Bihar Chief Minister Lalu Prasad Yadav, will fight from Mahua, a seat he won in 2015. Yadav said the party will reveal more candidates soon and that it is ready to cooperate with other groups.
RJD’s Mrityunjay Tiwari rejected claims of internal disputes and said the alliance’s seat‑sharing decisions are set. He also criticized the BJP, suggesting the party struggles to survive in Bihar and must hold meetings “from Delhi to Patna” to keep its footing.
In a surprise move that could hurt the JD‑United, former lawmakers Santosh Kumar Kushwaha and Rahul Sharma joined the opposition Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) before the polls. Kushwaha cited unequal power sharing and a lack of connection with the people as reasons for leaving. He expressed confidence in Tejashwi Yadav’s leadership and called for a fresh start for Bihar.
Congress veteran Manoj Kumar blasted the NDA government, saying the state has been in a state of disarray for the past two decades, with poor health and education outcomes. He called for urgent reforms and better governance.
With the election dates set for November 6 and 11, voters in Bihar are looking forward to a clear winner who can push the state into a new stage of growth. The parties will continue to negotiate seat shares, with the final decisions likely to shape the November 14 government formation.
