On Oct. 25, Tripura’s chief minister, Manik Saha, told voters that politics should never be run by muscle power or communal provocation. The BJP‑led state government stressed the need for peace and harmony in the tribal districts.
At a rally in Mandwai, West Tripura, Saha welcomed 339 new voters from 109 families—most from tribal communities—to the BJP. The event followed a day earlier when 6,400 tribal voters joined the party in Krishnapur, Khowai district, and another 690 voting families in Takarjala, Sepahijala district on Oct. 22. These moves strengthen the BJP’s base in Tripura’s tribal areas ahead of the 2025 Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council (TTAADC) elections.
Speaking to the crowd, Saha said the state government is committed to the welfare of the janajati (tribal) population and to ending a politics of fear. He warned that attempts to silence voices with muscle power would not be tolerated, implying a critique of the Tipra Motha Party (TMP) and its allied Tiprasa Civil Society (TCS).
The remarks came after a violent clash on Oct. 23 in Santirbazar, Dhalai district, where a TMP‑affiliated TCS protest turned into a shutdown that injured over a dozen people, including officials and a trader. Saha emphasized that true courage lies in leadership and communication, not in violence.
Saha also linked the fight against communist rule in Tripura with the BJP’s rise in 2018, saying that under Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership India has become a stronger democracy. He urged that no one can use physical force or communal provocation to destabilize the state and that the government will respond by law if any party tries to suppress dissent.
The rally was attended by senior BJP leaders such as state president Rajib Bhattacharya, former Lok Sabha MP Rebati Tripura, and state general secretary Bipin Debbarma. The chief minister highlighted growing participation of tribal mothers and sisters in development programs, seeing them as key supporters of the party’s progress.
Overall, the BJP’s focus remains on building a peaceful, inclusive Tripura where tribal communities can thrive without fear or intimidation.
