On Saturday, India’s Prime Minister Narendra Modi posted wishes on the social‑media platform X to celebrate Dhanteras – the first day of the Diwali season. Modi thanked his “family members” across the country and prayed for everyone’s happiness, prosperity and good health, wishing that Lord Dhanvantari and goddess Lakshmi bless people with wealth and well‑being.
Dhanteras, also called Dhanatrayodashi, is the key day that marks the start of Diwali in Hindu tradition. Families light clay lamps or diyas, sing bhajans to praise Lakshmi, and offer sweets to the goddess as part of the evening Lakshmi Puja.
Other leaders joined the celebrations. Home Minister Amit Shah sent his own heartfelt Dhanteras greetings on X, praying for everyone’s prosperity. Health Minister J.P. Nadda posted a similar message, wishing that blessings from Maa Lakshmi and Lord Dhanvantari bring wealth, health and joy. Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath also wished all citizens a joyful festival, asking for continuous blessings of happiness and prosperity.
The day sees millions of Indians lighting diyas, exchanging sweets, and sharing social‑media greetings, reinforcing Dhanteras as a nationwide celebration of prosperity and health.
