Ayodhya, Uttar Pradesh – The historic town of Ayodhya is gearing up for a spectacular celebration of its annual Deepotsav festival, set to light up the city with more than 26 lakh (2.6 million) diyas (oil lamps) from October 18 to 20.
The city’s commissioner, Rajesh Kumar, told reporters that this year’s Deepotsav will take place on 19 October. “All our preparations are almost finished,” he said. “We plan to break the record we set last time by lighting over 26 lakh diyas across the city, including the banks of the Saryu River.”
In addition to the massive diyas, Ayodhya will host a drone show and a light‑and‑sound spectacle. The drone display will dance across the sky above the Saryu River, while laser lights and music will accompany a 45‑minute projection mapping show at Ram Ki Paidi. Over 100 performers will bring scenes from the Ramayana to life with storytelling, choreography and vivid costumes.
The year‑long festival aims to “revive the spirit of Treta Yuga Ayodhya,” according to Tourism and Culture Minister Jaiveer Singh. He said that Deepotsav‑2025 will be the grandest celebration yet, with modern technology creating a vivid picture of Lord Ram’s triumphant return to the city.
The lighting plan will see the city’s streets, temples and river ghats illuminated by a sea of diyas, creating a visual feast that could earn a Guinness World Record. The 200‑meter stretch along the Saryu River will feature tableaux that depict key moments of Lord Ram’s story in a lively, interactive format.
“The fusion of visual technology, music, costumes and narration will give attendees a unique experience,” the tourism department added. “We want visitors from India and abroad to walk into a living showcase of Ayodhya’s heritage.”
Ayodhya Deepotsav‑2025 is set to blend age‑old tradition with cutting‑edge tech, offering a memorable highlight on the world’s cultural calendar. The event is expected to draw thousands of tourists, devotees and media worldwide, showcasing the city’s enduring spiritual and historic appeal.
