President Droupadi Murmu travelled to Delhi to reward Madhya Pradesh for a hit run on the national “Adi Karmayogi Abhiyan” – a campaign that trains grassroots tribal leaders across India. At Vigyan Bhawan on Friday, the president handed a special award to Gulshan Bamra, the state’s Tribal Affairs Principal Secretary, on behalf of the state’s people.

The Aadi Karmayogi Abhiyan is one of the country’s biggest tribal‑development programs. It aims to ready 20 lakh “Adi Karmayogis” – local champions who will deliver essential services and welfare benefits to nearly 10 crore tribal citizens. In Madhya Pradesh alone, 141,000 Aadi Sahayogis and 192,000 Aadi Saathis are on the ground, working with 1,210 NGOs to strengthen village‑level leadership and make government schemes feel real and effective.

Bamra highlighted that the state already has 13,000 Aadi Seva Kendras – community service hubs that help tribal families with health, education and livelihood support. “Our goal is to train 300,000 change‑makers who will help roll out development programs right at the village level,” he told reporters. “These leaders keep the system accountable, ensuring the benefits reach the people who need them most.”

The Ministry of Tribal Affairs calls the Abhiyan the world’s largest grassroots leadership initiative, built on the values of Sewa (service), Sankalp (determination) and Samarpan (commitment). It is a pillar of the government’s vision: “Sabka Saath, Sabka Vikas, Sabka Prayas, Sabka Vishwas.” The program will hit over 100,000 tribal‑dominant villages in 550 districts across 30 states and union territories, complementing other flagship schemes such as the Dharti Aaba Janjatiya Gram Utkarsh Abhiyan, PM JANMAN and the National Sickle Cell Anaemia Eliminating Mission.

“Recognising Madhya Pradesh’s success is a celebration of what we can achieve when we empower local tribal leaders,” President Murmu said. The award underscores the importance of grass‑roots empowerment in driving India’s inclusive development agenda.
