President Droupadi Murmu visited Gujarat on a three‑day trip that started with prayers at the historic Somnath Temple, one of the 12 jyotirlingas dedicated to Lord Shiva. The Somnath Temple sits near the coastal town of Veraval and is a major pilgrimage site for Hindus across India.
During her stop at Somnath, the President performed darshan and puja in the main hall. She also laid floral tributes at a statue of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel located close to the temple, a gesture noted on her official X account. A tweet from the President’s Secretariat highlighted the visit and repeated the key moments: “President Murmu performed darshan and puja at Somnath and laid flowers at Sardar Patel’s statue.”
After the temple ceremony, the President headed to Gir National Park, the world’s only reserve that shelters the majestic Asiatic lion. While in the park, she met local tribal communities at Sasan Gir. The President praised the resilience of tribal groups and urged them to pursue education for their children. She noted that the Siddi community—traditionally marginalised—now has a literacy rate of over 72 per cent, a fact the President highlighted as an encouraging sign of progress.
Murmu talked about new government initiatives aimed at improving tribal welfare. She encouraged leaders and villagers to learn about and share information on development schemes so that everyone can benefit. The President also pointed out that the environment‑friendly lifestyles of tribal peoples can inspire the wider nation.
Speaking about India’s future, Murmu said: “With our tribal brothers and sisters actively participating, we are building a society based on equality, justice, and respect. Preserving their culture and protecting their rights will help India become a developed nation by 2047.”
Her itinerary for the rest of the trip includes a darshan and aarti at Dwarkadhish Temple in Dwarka, followed by the 71st convocation ceremony at Gujarat Vidyapith in Ahmedabad. The President’s visits highlight her focus on cultural heritage and rural development across Gujarat.
