Shiv Sena (UBT) MP Priyanka Chaturvedi has slammed the upcoming India-Pakistan cricket match in the Asia Cup, calling for its outright cancellation amid fresh concerns over terrorism. The high-stakes clash is set for September 14 in Dubai, just days after her strong protest.
In a video she recorded while in the United States, Chaturvedi shared her frustration. She mentioned writing a letter to BCCI Chairman Roger Binny, urging him to scrap the game. “Pakistani cricketers keep humiliating India and our Operation Sindoor on social media,” she said. “They always side with terrorists in their country.”
Chaturvedi brought up the heartbreaking Pahalgam terror attack, where 26 young lives were lost, leaving 26 women widowed. This tragedy sparked Operation Sindoor, India’s bold response to Pakistan’s role in terror. During her visits to other countries as part of a parliamentary team, she heard clear messages: no talks or trade with nations harboring terrorists.
“Why is this India-Pakistan cricket match going ahead despite our pleas?” she asked in the video. She even appealed to Union Home Minister Amit Shah to step in and tell the BCCI to call it off. Chaturvedi questioned how the match could proceed if Prime Minister Narendra Modi has said Operation Sindoor is still underway. “The country should stand with those 26 grieving families, not play cricket against Pakistan,” she added firmly.
She called on all stakeholders to boycott the match—don’t stream it, don’t play it. “We won’t face Pakistan on the field until their players stop backing terrorists,” Chaturvedi urged fellow Indians to unite against Pakistan and support the victims’ families.
This will be the first international cricket showdown between India and Pakistan since the Pahalgam attack and Operation Sindoor. Opposition voices have echoed calls to boycott the Asia Cup fixture, but the central government has given the green light for the Indian team to compete in multi-nation tournaments like this one. As tensions simmer, cricket fans are left wondering if the game will go on as planned.
