‘Promote what is made with labour of Indian workers’: CM Yogi takes forward PM’s Swadeshi call

In Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath rallied people on Tuesday to back Swadeshi products and champion Indian talent, echoing Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s push for homegrown goods. Speaking at a state workshop on Atmanirbhar Bharat and Swadeshi Sankalp, Yogi stressed the importance of self-reliance and pride in what Indian workers create.

“The Prime Minister’s clear message is simple: Let’s promote everything made by the hard work of our Indian laborers and the skills of our young people,” Yogi said. He tied this to India’s tough history, pointing out how foreign invasions over centuries hurt the country’s population and farming. Yogi noted that around the year 1100, India’s Hindu population was about 60 crore, but by independence in 1947, it had dropped to roughly 30 crore.

“Think about it—should our numbers have grown or shrunk over 800 to 900 years?” he asked the crowd. Yogi explained that invaders didn’t just kill people; hunger, diseases, and torture wiped out millions too. “That’s the reality of foreign rule. India faced oppression and exploitation, even though it had so much potential. Foreign powers divided us and held us back.”

Shifting to brighter times, Yogi highlighted how India is now rebuilding through self-reliance and unity.

Just a day earlier, on Monday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched into his letter to citizens about the rollout of next-generation GST reforms—often called GST 2.0. This big update to India’s indirect tax system kicked off on September 22, sparking what Modi dubbed the GST Bachat Utsav, or GST Savings Festival.

As Navratri gets underway across the nation, Modi sent warm wishes to everyone. “I extend my heartfelt greetings to you and your families for this festival of joy and devotion. May Navratri bring health, happiness, and prosperity to all,” he wrote. But he added an extra reason to celebrate: These GST changes aim to save money for everyday folks and fuel growth nationwide.

Modi explained that the reforms will help everyone—from farmers and women to youth, the poor, middle class, traders, and small businesses like MSMEs. “They’ll spark more savings, investments, and progress in every state and region,” he said, making self-reliance feel even more achievable during this festive season.
