Mumbai, Nov. 1 – In a bold move before the 2025 Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation polls, Shiv Sena chief Uddhav Thackeray announced that his party will team up with cousin Raj Thackeray’s Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS). The two leaders said the alliance is meant to protect voters, Marathi people, Hindus and Maharashtra itself.
Thackeray made the announcement during a rally where opposition parties clashed over serious problems in the city’s voter list. He warned that “vote‑stealing” is a crime that must be stopped. “If you see a thief, beat him,” he said, urging people to support the coalition and to “raise both hands” for a united front.
The rally also highlighted duplicate and bogus entries in the electoral rolls. Thackeray accused the government of trying to steal votes and even said someone had used his name to request a voter‑list check on the Saksham app on Oct. 23. He said he would file a complaint after the federal government, led by Home Minister Amit Shah, has ignored similar concerns.
MNS leader Raj Thackeray showed evidence of duplicate voters and called on his party workers to remove defaulters from polling booths. “When duplicates appear, we must remove them and hand them over to the police,” he said.
Opposition leaders Sharad Pawar of the NCP‑SP and Congress veteran Balasaheb Thorat joined the call for a clean voter list before local elections. Pawar said the fallout from the last Assembly election had shaken public confidence, and urged parties to unite for democracy. Thorat said the current voter list contains “bogus people” and insisted that elections should be postponed until the lists are corrected.
The opposition plans to file a court petition in the next few days, demanding that the new local elections only be held after correcting the rolls. They argue that allowing elections with duplicate or fake names would compromise the integrity of the vote.
In short, the Shiv Sena‑MNS alliance, backed by NCP‑SP and Congress, is demanding that electoral rolls be purged of errors before the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation elections. The aim is to stop vote theft, ensure fair elections, and protect the democratic process in Maharashtra.
