Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader Saurabh Bharadwaj has hit out at a BJP MLA from Mangolpuri for allegedly threatening shopkeepers to attend the inauguration of Delhi’s new Sanjay Gandhi Trauma Centre. The centre, known as Asia’s largest trauma facility, is set to open soon, and Bharadwaj claims the BJP is using scare tactics to boost attendance.
In a fiery post on X (formerly Twitter), Bharadwaj shared a video of BJP MLA Rajkumar Chauhan warning market vendors. “Whether you understand it with love or with intimidation—in 20 days, the Trauma Centre inauguration will take place,” Chauhan is heard saying in the clip. “If, when our respected CM comes, there is no crowd, then every single person, every child from this market must reach there. I swear on Baba that I will destroy this market.”
Bharadwaj slammed the move, calling it a desperate bid by the BJP to gather crowds. He pointed out the irony: the massive Sanjay Gandhi Trauma Centre was actually built under Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal’s leadership. “People of Delhi know the BJP is just trying to steal credit for this project,” Bharadwaj said. He even shared a 2023 video of Kejriwal inspecting the site to back his claim.
The AAP Delhi unit chief added that the public is fed up with the BJP. He recalled past incidents where MCD sanitation workers were allegedly forced into buses to attend Prime Minister’s rallies, yet crowds stayed low. “This shows how angry Delhiites are with the BJP—they’re now relying on threats to fill events,” Bharadwaj noted.
For context, the Sanjay Gandhi Memorial Hospital, which houses the trauma centre, started in 1986 as a 100-bed facility under the Delhi government’s plan for scheduled castes and tribes. It grew to 300 beds by 2010 and now includes a dedicated 150-bed section for maternity and paediatrics. The new trauma centre marks a big upgrade, but the political row over its credit has sparked fresh AAP-BJP tensions in the national capital.
